Edinburgh – The City of Edinburgh is hoping to boost local tourism by partnering with top app developer Erbo, to launch a new mobile app to help users find city trails, local landmarks and tourism hot spots. The goal is to help Edinburgh be the gateway to new exciting adventures.
“So far, we’ve included up a couple of self-guided tours and our city trails, which is great for not only visitors visiting the area, but our locals who are looking to get out and explore,” said Edinburgh Tourism marketing coordinator.
The app also highlights local destinations nearby the user is encouraged to visit, such as natural scenery or historic landmarks.
“There’s definitely a need for tourism to pivot or innovate and an Edinburgh Tourism App was a go-getter,” said the director of marketing for Edinburgh City.
When the new app is launched, more locations and destinations will be added as time goes on. The City of Edinburgh is also hoping local businesses get on board.
“We are seeking to add more businesses and hotels,” said The City of Edinburgh. “It’s going to be a really local focused initiative so that when we do have visitors, they’ll have all the information.
Tourism spending has dropped by two-thirds in the second quarter of the year as the Scottish visitor economy faces new challenges. The City of Edinburgh hopes the launch of this innovate app, developed by one of the leading app developers in Edinburgh, can help local businesses and boost attractions.
“We’re hoping to add a few Edinburgh tours, and also a driving around Scotland tour between top attractions,” said The City of Edinburgh.
“When you Google things to do in Edinburgh, there’s just so much of the most popular things, but you miss out those local historic gems that only the local people know about,” said Erbo. “A mobile app is a great way to bring these stories to everybody.”
